Microgrids

Microgrids are modern, small-scale versions of the centralized electricity system that operate when connected with the larger grid, as well as in islanded mode during power outages or cyber threat. Like the bulk power grid, microgrids generate, distribute, and regulate the flow of electricity, but do so at a localized level appropriate for military campuses and small communities. They utilize multiple energy technologies, including: Solar, Wind, Fuel Cells, Natural Gas, Diesel, Electric and Thermal Energy Storage.

groSolar and its partner EDF Renewable Energy offer microgrid solutions that provide:

  • Sophisticated monitoring and control
  • Black start capability
  • Frequency and voltage regulation
  • Building energy efficiency management
  • Load shifting and hierarchical load shedding prioritizing critical infrastructure
  • Standardized and industrial-grade communications
  • Flexibility from energy storage and demand response
